After just three months of operation, Jempson's service station has now reported that the car wash is seeing a phenomenal 400% increase in revenue. These figures were in comparison to the previous years automatic brush wash revenue. "We expected to see a revenue increase on the site as we begin tapping into the large part of the population that will not use automatic brush washes" Says Nu-Shine's sales director Leighton Ricketts. "We do see this trend continuing to grow as more and more customers use the wash. Touchless car washing when done correctly is a fast, safe and fun way to clean your car. Customers really do love the whole contactless concept and it also gives a great clean"
This month we talk to Jurgita Vainauskiene, Site Manager at Jempson’s Express JET petrol station in Peasmarsh, East Sussex, about the company’s decision to install an automatic ‘Storm’ touchless car wash system.
Why did you decide to opt for a touchless car wash?
“When we were looking to replace our previous brush wash facility we did a lot of research. We wanted to drive higher forecourt footfall and sales and felt that a touchless car washing system could not only do this, but would also attract those customers who won’t use car washes with brushes as they’re concerned about the potential damage they might cause to vehicles.”
Which model did you opt for?
“The Storm model was recommended by our wash supplier, Nu-Shine, due to the high quality clean it achieves.”
How do you entice customers to try it out?
“Its position on the forecourt helps. The car wash is located slightly away from the fuel pumps, but is still visible when customers are filling up. We also have a large car wash menu at the wash bay, with smaller signs at the tills, but we’ve found that as it’s a touchless car wash it pretty much markets itself through word of mouth! The facility is spotlessly clean, with easy access for entry and exit, a simple menu, good chemicals and a good quality wash – all of which help attract repeat custom.”
What has customer feedback been like so far?
“Our customers love the concept and, due to its good visibility on-site, we’re getting a very high rate of impulse buys when customers see the wash in action. Customers seem to love the fact that there are no brushes and yet the quality of clean is really good.”
How are car wash sales performing?
“Brilliantly! We’ve already seen a 20% increase in revenue based on last year’s figures. We operated the wash for the first month at half price and despite this offer our revenue is up. With the feedback we’re getting and plans to introduce a monthly unlimited car wash club, we expect a very significant increase in sales over the coming months.”
